When to call

Signs you need water filtration & softeners

  • White, crusty scale on faucets, showerheads and glass
  • Spots on dishes, glasses and shower doors that only come off with hard scrubbing
  • Dry skin and hair, or soap that never seems to lather
  • A chlorine or chloramine taste and odor in tap water
  • A water heater, dishwasher or washing machine that scales up and wears out early
  • Rust-colored stains, or a gritty, cloudy first pour from the tap

What you get

The ABC Plumbing difference

  • A real water test, covering hardness, chlorine, total dissolved solids and pH, before any recommendation
  • The right system for your water, not the most expensive one
  • A bypass valve, an air-gapped drain and a proper outlet installed with every system
  • Local discharge rules checked for your address, with salt-free options offered where needed
  • The softener plumbed after the hose bibs, so lawns and gardens keep getting untreated water
  • A 5-year written workmanship warranty on installation, with the equipment manufacturer's warranty passed through to you

System types

Which system fits?

Softening, filtering and purifying solve different problems. After the water test, we match the system to what your water actually needs.

  • Salt-based softener

Best for hard water scale. Exchanges calcium and magnesium for sodium. Protects water heaters, fixtures and appliances.

  • Whole-home carbon filter

Best for chlorine and chloramine taste and odor. Treats every tap, shower and appliance in the house.

  • Reverse osmosis

Best for drinking and cooking water. An under-sink system with its own faucet that reduces dissolved solids and many contaminants.

  • Sediment pre-filter

Best for particles and rust. Protects softeners, fixtures and appliances from grit.

  • Salt-free conditioner

Best where salt discharge is restricted. It changes how scale forms, rather than removing hardness, so it is a different trade-off.

  • Filtered faucets and ice-maker lines

Best for a single kitchen tap. A small filter that cleans the water you drink and cook with, without treating the whole house.

How it works

From test to clean water

  1. 01

    Test

We measure hardness, chlorine, total dissolved solids and pH at your tap, so the recommendation fits your actual water.

  2. 02

    Recommend

An honest comparison of the systems that fit, with a written flat-rate price for each, and no pressure to buy the biggest.

  3. 03

    Install

The system is plumbed with a bypass, an air-gapped drain and an outlet, and your outdoor lines stay on untreated water.

  4. 04

    Set up and maintain

We program the settings, show you the salt and cartridge routine, and offer maintenance visits so you never have to remember.

Start with a water test

We measure hardness, chlorine, total dissolved solids and pH so the recommendation matches your actual water. Hardness is usually reported in grains per gallon, and once it moves out of the soft range you start to see scale on glass, in the water heater and inside appliances.

We explain your reading in plain terms and tell you honestly whether a softener, a filter or both would improve your day-to-day life.

Professional installation

Systems are plumbed with a bypass valve, a proper drain connection with an air gap, and an electrical outlet. We size to household count and hardness so regeneration cycles stay efficient. Some local sewer agencies restrict salt discharge from softeners, so we check the rules for your address and offer salt-free conditioners or off-site-regenerated options where needed.

We also set up under-sink RO systems, refrigerator ice-maker lines and filtered kitchen faucets.

Hard water and the rest of your plumbing

Scale does its worst damage where you cannot see it. It coats heating elements and the bottom of a tank, narrows pipes, and builds inside a tankless heater's heat exchanger until the unit starts throwing error codes.

If you are replacing a water heater or a tankless unit, adding a softener or scale-prevention filter at the same time protects the new equipment. The same goes for new fixtures and a repipe.

Upkeep

Softeners need salt refills; carbon and RO filters need periodic cartridge changes, typically every 6 to 12 months. We offer maintenance visits so you never have to remember.

We show you where the brine tank lid, the bypass and the settings are, so a quick top-up or a vacation setting never feels like a mystery.

Call for a water test and a straight recommendation.

We test first and recommend second. If a simple filter is all you need, that is what we will tell you.

No. The sodium added is small and most people cannot taste it. We can route a separate unsoftened cold tap if you prefer.
