When to call

Signs you need 24/7 emergency plumbing

  • Water pouring from a ceiling, light fixture or wall, or spreading across a floor
  • A burst, split or freshly cracked pipe, or a supply line that has let go under a sink, toilet or washing machine
  • Sewage backing up into a tub, shower or floor drain, or every drain in the house gurgling at once
  • No water at the taps, or a sudden drop to a trickle while your neighbors still have pressure
  • A water heater that is leaking, rumbling hard or popping, or a tank standing in a puddle
  • A toilet that will not stop overflowing, or a dishwasher or washer flooding the kitchen or laundry room

What you get

The ABC Plumbing difference

  • A live dispatcher answers the emergency line 24 hours a day, with no voicemail and no answering service
  • Typical arrival within 60 minutes in the Laguna Beach core, and 60 to 90 minutes in Newport Beach and Dana Point
  • Trucks stocked with pipe, valves, fittings and water heater parts, so most emergencies are stopped on the first visit
  • The after-hours rate is quoted up front, and a written flat-rate price comes before any repair begins
  • Photos of the cause and an itemized invoice you can hand straight to your insurance company
  • Shoe covers, drop cloths and a tidy clean-up, even at three in the morning

Before the truck arrives

Do this right now

The first few minutes decide how much damage a leak does. These steps are safe for anyone to take, and our dispatcher will talk you through each one on the phone.

  • Shut off the main water valve

Look near the street meter, on the front wall of the house, in the garage or beside the water heater. Turn a round handle clockwise until it stops, or turn a lever a quarter turn so it sits across the pipe.

  • Open a low faucet

With the main closed, open the lowest tap in the house, such as a tub faucet or an outdoor hose bib. It drains the lines and relieves pressure, so less water escapes.

  • Keep clear of electricity

If water is reaching outlets, light fixtures or the panel, switch that circuit off only if the panel is dry and you can reach it without stepping in water. If you cannot, stay out of the room and tell us when we answer.

  • Stop the leaking fixture

On a leaking water heater, close the cold-water inlet valve on top of the tank. On an overflowing toilet, lift the tank lid and press the flapper down, or close the valve behind the bowl.

  • Stop using water in a sewage backup

Do not run sinks, showers, toilets or the washing machine. Keep children and pets away from the affected area and out of any standing water.

  • Protect belongings and take photos

Move rugs, electronics and keepsakes out of the water's path, then photograph the damage and the source before anything is cleaned up. Your insurer will ask for them.

How an emergency call works

Dispatch in four steps

  1. 01

    Call

Tell our dispatcher what is happening. A live person answers, asks a few quick questions and starts walking you through the shutoff.

  2. 02

    Dispatch

The nearest stocked truck is sent. You get an arrival window and the plumber's name, typically within 60 minutes in the Laguna Beach core.

  3. 03

    Stop the damage

Water off, leak contained and the cause found. You see a written flat-rate price, with the after-hours rate quoted up front, before repairs begin.

  4. 04

    Fix it right

Most repairs finish on the spot from truck stock. Bigger jobs are explained as options, so you can decide in daylight instead of under pressure.

What counts as a plumbing emergency

Some problems can wait until morning. These cannot: a burst pipe, water pouring from a ceiling, sewage backing up into tubs or floor drains, a water heater that is leaking or making loud popping sounds, or no water to the whole house.

A gas odor near an appliance is the one exception to calling us first. Leave the building, call 911 or SoCalGas from outside, and call us once you are safe. For everything else, if you are unsure, call anyway. Describing the situation takes a minute, and our dispatcher will tell you honestly whether it is a true emergency or something a scheduled visit can handle.

How an after-hours visit works

You reach a real person, not a voicemail box. We give you an arrival window and send the plumber's name, and the truck is stocked with common pipe, valves, fittings and water heater parts so most emergencies are stopped on the first visit.

Before any work begins you get a clear written price, with the after-hours rate quoted up front. Stopping the damage comes first. Larger repairs are explained as options so you can decide in daylight rather than under pressure.

After the water is off

We stop the source and repair the plumbing, and we document the cause with photos and an itemized invoice you can hand to your insurer. If ceilings, drywall or flooring are soaked, we will tell you plainly when it is time to call a drying and restoration crew, because wet materials can start to grow mold within a day or two.

Once things are dry, we can come back for permanent repairs on your schedule, whether that is a new shutoff valve, a replaced supply line or an honest conversation about repiping if the pipes are failing.

Coastal homes, coastal problems

Salt air, hillside lots and older cast-iron or galvanized lines in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Dana Point mean we see failures others do not: corroded shutoffs, pressure spikes after the street main is serviced, and slab leaks in homes built decades ago. We know the local building departments and can pull permits when a repair requires one.

Marisol Alvarado has run our dispatch since 1999. She knows which stretches of Coast Highway and which canyon roads slow a truck down, so the arrival window you hear is an honest one.
