When to call

Signs you need gas line services

  • A rotten-egg odor or hissing near a pipe, appliance or meter: leave first, call 911 or SoCalGas, then call us
  • A burner flame that is yellow or orange instead of steady blue, or soot around an appliance
  • Old, kinked or corroded flexible connectors behind a range, dryer or water heater
  • A new range, dryer, fireplace, fire pit, pool heater or outdoor kitchen with no gas line to connect to
  • A remodel that moves the kitchen, laundry or water heater and needs its gas piping rerouted
  • A gas bill that climbed for no clear reason, or a meter dial that keeps moving with every appliance off

What you get

The ABC Plumbing difference

  • Licensed gas work only, with permits pulled and inspections scheduled for you

  • Venting and combustion air checked at every appliance hookup
  • A written workmanship warranty: 5 years on new gas piping, 1 year on repairs

What we do

Gas jobs we handle

From a single appliance hookup to a new line for an outdoor kitchen, every job is permitted where the code requires it, and tested before it is used.

  • Appliance hookups

Ranges, dryers, water heaters, fireplaces and furnaces connected with approved flex connectors and shutoffs.

  • New gas lines

Outdoor kitchens, BBQ stubs, fire pits and pool heaters, sized to the load.

  • Leak detection and repair

Pressure testing and electronic detection to find and fix faulty fittings.

  • Line replacement

Corroded or undersized pipe replaced to current code.

  • Shutoff and meter work

Accessible shutoff valves and earthquake shutoff valves for added safety.

  • Water heater gas upgrades

Larger gas lines, venting and connectors for a new tank or a tankless conversion, sized for the new load.

Planned gas work

From walk-through to turn-on

  1. 01

    Walk-through

We look at the route, the appliances and the meter, and add up the gas load the line must carry.

  2. 02

    Price and permit

You get a written flat-rate price, and we pull the permit and coordinate with the inspector.

  3. 03

    Install and test

Pipe is run with approved materials, then pressure-tested and checked at every joint before gas is turned on.

  4. 04

    Inspect and light

After inspection we turn the gas on, light the appliances and confirm venting, combustion and the flame.

If you smell gas

Natural gas has a sulfur or rotten-egg odor added so you can notice it. If you smell it: do not operate light switches, do not use a lighter, and do not use a phone indoors. Leave with everyone, including pets, and call 911 or SoCalGas from outside, at a safe distance.

Once emergency crews or the gas utility have cleared the home, call us for diagnosis and repair of the piping or appliance on your side of the meter. Do not go back inside until you are told it is safe.

Licensed work only

In California, installing or altering gas piping requires a licensed contractor and, in most jurisdictions, a permit and inspection. Unlicensed gas work can void insurance, fail inspection and put your family at risk. We pull permits and schedule inspections for you.

How we work

We size pipe to the combined BTU load of your appliances, use approved materials (black iron, CSST or coated copper as the code allows), and pressure-test every new or modified line before turning gas back on. Appliances are checked for proper venting and combustion air.

Leaks are located with calibrated detectors, not just soap and guesswork, and repaired by replacing the faulty section or fitting.

Outdoor living on the coast

Patio kitchens, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces and pool heaters are some of the most common gas jobs in Laguna Beach, Newport Beach and Dana Point. Salt air is hard on fittings, so we use coated and corrosion-resistant materials and place shutoffs where you can reach them.

We plan the stub locations with your contractor or landscaper before concrete, pavers or stucco go in, so a line is never an afterthought.

Smell gas? Leave, then call 911 or SoCalGas.

Once the home has been cleared, call us to diagnose and repair the problem. For planned gas work, a licensed plumber is on the line any day of the week.
